Ph.D. Scholarship in the Philosophy of Finance and Physics


LGT Group - The Wealth and Asset Management Group of the Princely House of Liechtenstein - invites applications for a three-year full-time Ph.D. Scholarship in the Philosophy of Finance and Physics commencing September, 2011.

The successful candidate is expected to work on foundational and methodological questions at the intersection of finance and physics, in particular quantum mechanics, with a view to applications in investment management. Additionally, LGT offer data access and the opportunity to interact with a team of investment professionals with a strong academic interest and to relate the doctoral research to the challenges of the banking and investment environment.

The stipend includes a living allowance and the payment of university fees (to a total maximum of € 25,000 per annum). The position is open to candidates with a master’s or bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in philosophy, economics, physics, mathematics, or a related field. The successful candidate is expected to enrol or be enrolled in a suitable Ph.D. programme of her or his choice. If desired, the Scholarship Committee will be happy to advise on this.

Candidates are invited to submit a letter of interest, a research plan of about one thousand words, a curriculum vitae, certificates, a transcript of courses taken (including grades), and at least one letter of recommendation. If available, relevant supporting documents, such as a thesis or publications, should also be included in the application.
