PhD Studentships: Oxford Brookes University

University Research Studentships in the Department of History, Philosophy and Religion Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences The Department of History, Philosophy and Religion, Oxford Brookes University is looking for strong candidates for two, three year, full-time PhD studentships. For successful candidates the home/EU fee will be paid by the University and students will receive an annual stipend of £7000 for three years beginning in 2012/13. The studentships are open to both home/EU and International students, but International applicants should be aware that they would need to fund the difference between the home/EU and International research degree fees each year for the duration of the award. The studentships are intended for candidates, who will pursue PhD research that falls within the following research areas (this list is not exclusive and applications in other research areas are also welcomed):


• History of Societies, Governance and Culture
• History of Medicine and Welfare
• History of Art: Material and Political Cultures
• Philosophy, Cognition and Behaviour
• Religion, Belief and Humanism

As a successful applicant, you will join a supportive and research-active Department. In the RAE 2008, 90% research in the Department was judged to be of International quality and 65% of this world-leading.

Eligibility: We are looking to recruit candidates of the highest quality, with the capability of submitting a PhD thesis within 3 years. The successful candidates are expected to have completed, or be in the process of completing, a relevant Masters degree. The Studentship holders may also be required to complete supplementary research methods training in their first year of study. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate strong research capabilities and be fluent in spoken and written English.

Deadline: The closing date for applications is 17:00 on Wednesday 9 May.

Interview date: Interviews will be held from the week commencing Monday 28 May.

Start date: 17 September 2012.
