Tenured W3-Professorship in Philosophy at the University of Konstanz

The University of Konstanz is one of the nine Universities of Excellence in the Federal Republic of Germany. The Department of Philosophy in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Konstanz invites applications for a tenured W3-Professorship in Philosophy with a special emphasis in practical philosophy and the theory of social sciences to be filled by 1st April, 2013.

The applicant is responsible for pursuing both research and teaching in the Department of Philosophy and is expected to take on certain administrative duties as well. Teaching duties will take place within the framework of the philosophy major/minor in the BA, MA, and teacher training program according to the current degree and examination regulations. Research participation in the University's Cluster of Excellence "Cultural Foundations of Social Integration" is welcome. For more information about the Philosophy Department, see: http://www.uni-konstanz.de/philosophie.

Areas of research specialization of department professors are systematically structured. At the same time, each professor should have an historical field of competence, such that the important areas in the history of philosophy are generally covered by the faculty as a whole. This serves our goal of encouraging the study of the history of philosophy from a systematic perspective. Accordingly, the applicant will be able to present the subject of philosophy and his or her individual areas of specialization in both a systematic and historical light. Special consideration will be given to applicants with internationally recognized research accomplishments. The applicant will already have a German Habilitation or some equivalent in Philosophy. The University of Konstanz is an equal opportunity employer and tries to increase the number of women in research and teaching. The University of Konstanz has been certified by the Hertie Foundation to be a family-friendly institution. The University is committed to further the compatibility of work and family life. The University of Konstanz supports a “Dual Career Program". Information can be obtained from:  www.uni-konstanz.de/dcc . The University of Konstanz encourages disabled persons to apply. They will be given preference if appropriately qualified.
