PhD, MRes and MA courses - The Philosophy Department at Manchester

The Philosophy Department at Manchester welcomes applications, from suitably qualified students, for postgraduate study commencing in September 2012. For more information on the PhD, MRes and MA courses on offer, please visit:

http://www.socialsciences.manchester.ac.uk/disciplines/philosophy/postgraduate/

We expect to have two AHRC studentships (one for MRes, one for PhD), and one School of Social Sciences Studentship (PhD). There is also the possibility that the PhD awards will be upgraded to the new President's Doctoral Scholar Award. A limited number of International Research Student Awards may also be available.

In addition, as part of the new, three year AHRC funded project, Knowledge of Emotion: Expression and Social Cognition, one further PhD studentship is available (to start in September 2012). This interdisciplinary project, led by Joel Smith and Catharine Abell, will investigate the rational grounds of expression-based attributions of emotion. Research proposals are invited on the topics of social cognition, emotion and the expression of psychological states.

The deadline for funding purposes is 1st March 2012. For more information on funding opportunities, visit:

To discuss these opportunities informally, please contact Joel Smith, joel.smith@manchester.ac.uk (for PhD opportunities), or Catharine Abell, catharine.abell@manchester.ac.uk (for MRes opportunities).
