Job Title – Assistant Editor

Job Summary

Part time 50% fte, fixed term for one year from 1 August 2011

The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science is one of the world’s leading journals in the philosophy of science and one of the most prestigious philosophy journals published in the UK.  It publishes articles in all areas of the philosophy of science, including the philosophy of the special sciences and in the foundations of the special sciences, for example, foundations of physics, evolutionary theory, and the human sciences.

The Assistant Editor combines the roles of i) providing administrative support to the Editors of the British Journal for the Philosophy of Science (from September 1st, the Editors will be: Professor Steven French, Department of Philosophy, Leeds; Dr Michela Massimi, Science and Technology Studies, UCL) and ii) undertaking editorial activities under the supervision of the Editors.

An ability to read and understand academic papers in the philosophy of science is regarded as essential and experience of similar editorial work would be desirable.

The duties of the Assistant Editor are confined to the business of the Journal and include no teaching or research duties or other duties relating to the work of the Departments of Philosophy at Leeds or Science and Technology Studies at UCL.  Nevertheless, the holder of this post would be very welcome to apply for part time teaching/tutoring opportunities in the Department of Philosophy, University of Leeds.

It is expected that the post holder will be located in Leeds.

Funding for the post is provided by the British Society for the Philosophy of Science which owns and runs the Journal.

University Grade 6 (£24,340 - £29,099 p.a. pro-rata.)
