The Centre for Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy at the Institute of Philosophy, K.U.Leuven has a vacancy for a four-year doctoral research position as part of the research project “Political Representation and Democratic Agency”, subsidized by the Research Foundation of Flanders (FWO). The candidate will conduct her or his research as a member of the political philosophy research group RIPPLE (Research in Political Philosophy Leuven), and within the framework of its overall research programme. This program aims at uncovering the (normative) preconditions of political, and more specifically democratic society formation in the era of globalization. At present, the group consists of five senior researchers, five post-doctoral researchers, and about twenty doctoral students from K.U.Leuven and abroad, which testifies to its distinct international profile. RIPPLE focuses on contemporary political philosophy encouraging the dialogue between continental and analytical approaches.

Salary: approx. 1650 EUR/month (net)
Profile of the candidate:
- MA in Philosophy (preferably with a thesis in Political Philosophy) or MA in Political Theory (preferably with a major in Political Philosophy)
- Independent and self-motivated
- Willing to work as a team member of the research group
- Excellent writing skills
- A high level of proficiency in English
Tasks of the researcher:
The research is to be defended as the candidate’s doctoral dissertation (preferably written in English).
The researcher will present the results of her or his research activities both at national and international meetings and conferences. The candidate will be expected to publish regularly in international, refereed journals.
The researcher is expected to participate in the joint research activities of RIPPLE, e.g. attending weekly seminars, assisting in the organization of workshops or conferences. S/he is also expected to spend some of her/his research time with experts at universities abroad.
S/he will be charged with minor teaching (or administrative) responsibilities both at undergraduate and graduate level (max. 2 hours of teaching or 4 hours of administrative tasks a week during the academic year).
