Hacker Explains Wittgenstein's Complex Philosophy

Considered by many to be one of the leading philosophers of the 20th century, Austrian- British Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889 - 1951), had a major influence on logic, logical positivism, as well as on philosophy of mathematics, mind and language. P. M. S. Hacker is a fellow of St John's College, Oxford. He is author of numerous books and articles on philosophy of mind and philosophy of language, and a leading authority on the philosophy of Wittgenstein. Among his many publications on Wittgenstein are Wittgenstein's Place in Twentieth-Century Analytic PhilosophyInsight and Illusion: Themes in the Philosophy of Wittgenstein and the monumental four volume Analytical Commentary on the Philosophical Investigations published by Blackwell, the first two volumes of which are co-authored with G. P. Baker.

Distinguished Professor Brian Skyrms will receive the UCI Alumni Association's highest honor, the Lauds & Laurels Extraordinarius award, for his insights into life's deepest questions. It's rather fitting that world-renowned philosopher Brian Skyrms occupies an office on the seventh floor of UC Irvine's Social Science Tower.
